Brumby Wines was established in
2001 on the family property "Sandyanna" in the Swan Hill
Wine Region of Victoria. The vineyard (est. 1996), consists of 35
acres; varietals being Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and
Durif.
The vineyard has been trellised to optimise the exposure of the grape
bunches to abundant sunlight, and with careful pruning, irrigation
and canopy management the vineyard produces desired low yielding crops
with small berries that have elevated flavours and aromatics.
In the early 1800’s, Sergeant James Brumby, having arrived in
Australia with the Third Fleet, was granted some land in New South
Wales on which he grazed cattle and horses. On being posted to Tasmania
a few years later, he left his horses to run wild and they became
known as “Brumby horses”
and the legend of the Brumby was born.
Today the Brumby, having stood the test of tradition, is the official
name of Australia’s wild horses. Being tough and hardy, yet
majestic and beautiful, has ensured the Brumbies survival in Australia’s
harsh high country where survival of the fittest reigns.
Brumby Wines continues the tradition.
Our goal is to create further business partnerships in local and international
markets. |
